Lenzie Golf club
We are all suffering from the world wide events which are now hitting our own shores, undoubtedly difficult times lie ahead for us all.
We had scheduled a meeting this morning to discuss the current crisis and make contingency plans for the Golf Club and to keep members informed. National announcements yesterday afternoon and new stringent measures now being put in place have left us all with some difficult decisions as to how we lead our lives and interactions for the next few months at least.
Unlike many other sports, at the time of writing we are not aware of any restrictions on playing golf, with golf courses being regarded as low risk. Having said that we are aware that some national golf tournaments have been cancelled but mainly due to overseas entrants and travel restrictions.
We will endeavour to maintain the golf course and will liaise with our staff to work on a rota basis to minimise the impact of any infection and self- isolation. The same will apply to our office staff to maintain basic club governance during this most difficult time.
The new measures being introduced are quite clear in stating that we should avoid social contact and unnecessary travel, and we are also advised not to visit pubs, clubs, restaurants, theatres etc
Our paramount objective is to look after the welfare of our members to the best of our ability while still maintaining the golf course at a time when the majority of other activities are severely curtailed.
With regard to the clubhouse, given the directives above, it is difficult to see how we can continue to open the bar and kitchen and still play our part in what has become a national drive to get through this virus crisis. We also have to consider the welfare and safety of our staff.
It is with regret that we announce that from today the clubhouse and kitchen will close initially until the end of April following which we will reappraise the situation
and continue to follow national advice. All functions unfortunately will have to be cancelled/postponed, and we will be in touch with those parties / organisers just as soon as we can.
Locker rooms and trolley shed will close on Sunday at 6 pm to give members time to pick up their golf equipment.
The Golf Course itself will remain open. Rakes are being removed from the course and bunkers should be repaired using your club.
We will continue to keep the course maintained and members can continue to play as they wish.
The Match and Handicap committee are currently making plans to allow competitions to take place for business as usual throughout the year
These are difficult and anxious times for the club and its members. I would like to ask everyone to bear with us throughout.
In closing I urge all members to follow the NHS and National Guidelines and self- isolate if you have any of the symptoms of Covid-19. This is an unprecedented crisis, which we are all experiencing, we will be in touch again with further updates to advise of our club's position if the situation changes.
